INTERSEGMENTAL TRACTION

Is a form of traction achieved through use of a mechanical table which induces a separation of spinal joints and stretching of muscle and ligament attachments.  It is useful for strengthening muscle and ligament attachments, and induce motion in the spine which aids to break up fixations.  It relieves muscle spasm, reduces swelling, improves circulation in the tissues, and prevents the formation of adhesions around the nerve roots and adjacent structures.  Indications for use include:  arthritis, cervical syndrome, intervertebral disc lesions, neuralgia, neuritis, radiculitis, sprain, strain….

EXERCISE

Is therapeutic body movement directed at restoration of normal function or maintenance of  a state of well-being.  The purpose is to restore, improve, or maintain strength, elasticity, and coordination.  Types include:  range of motion, muscle re-education, pressive resistance exercises, endurance, coordination, relaxation, postural, conditioning, stretching, and breathing.  Indications for use include:  adhesions, contusions, epicondylitis, fibrositis, intervertebral disc lesion, kyphosis, lordosis, scoliosis, low back pain, myalgia, myositis, sciatica, spondylolisthesis, sprain, strain….

INFRARED

Infrared is a pain relief therapy that emits energy in the infrared spectrum through light emitting diodes (LEDs) to direct a powerful stream of warm therapeutic light deep into tissues, increasing circulation to target areas and relieving aches, pains and stiffness in muscles and joints. Infrared increases blood flow to sore tissues so you can enjoy the freedom, comfort and flexibility you once had! Indications for use include:  arthritis, contusions, back pain, muscle and tendon injury, sprains…

DIATHERMY

Is a therapeutic technique of elevating the heat of body tissues by passing a shortwave high-frequency current through part of the body.  Heat results from resistance offered by the tissue.  Effects include:  volume heating of the tissues, increased blood flow, and relaxation of muscle spasm.  Indications for use include: chronic arthritis, contusions, strain, musculoskeletal and neurologic conditions, especially sciatica.

THERAPEUTIC EXERCISE

Definition

Therapeutic exercise is an intervention encompassing a broad range of activities designed to restore or improve musculoskeletal, cardiopulmonary and/or neurologic function.

Description

Therapeutic exercise can be an intervention used in a chiropractic plan of care or as part of a recommendation in client consultation. The chiropractor uses a thorough examination including subjective and objective data to assess each patient's specific needs. It is clear that an 80-year-old woman with osteoporosis with a history of fractures is going to require a much different program from a 20-year-old athlete who wants to return to sports following a knee injury.
The main goal of therapeutic exercise is to improve or maintain functional ability, including daily living skills, through the application of careful and gradual forces to the body. Often, this overall goal is achieved through the objectives of developing, improving, restoring or maintaining one or more of the following: strength, endurance, flexibility, stability, coordination and/or balance.

Purpose

Some form of therapeutic exercise is indicated in almost every chiropractic case. Chiropractors may assist clients in designing therapeutic exercise programs to prevent injury or secondary impairments. In addition, chiropractors use therapeutic exercise as one component of patient care to improve functional ability and general well-being in those who are experiencing limitations or disability due to a disease, disorder, trauma, or surgery.

Precautions

Therapeutic exercise includes a broad spectrum of activities, from passive range of motion and breathing exercises to high-speed agility drills. Precautions, therefore, are specific to each individual depending upon his or her condition. The chiropractor must use his or her specialized knowledge to determine exercises that are appropriate for a patient or client's level of ability, age, endurance, severity of injury and/or stage of recovery.

NUTRITIONAL COUNSELING

Nutritional counseling is an established scientific and holistic approach towards balancing the needs of the human body through the use of wholesome, nutrient-rich foods and dietary supplements.

Dr. McCabe's unique background in both traditional and alternative approaches to nutrition allows him to produce a program that enables the patient to be an active part in the journey towards optimum wellness.
